Over 140 high-risk users from civil society, youth and women’s groups in Indonesia received digital security training as a way to enhance their resilience against cyber threats.
Conducted throughout 2024, both online and onsite in Jakarta and Bali, these Google-supported sessions were delivered by Asia Centre on 4 separate occasions in Indonesia. The training sessions were all delivered by Asia Centre’s Partnership Manager, Ms. Kartini Sunityo in Bahasa Indonesia.
On 25th September 2024, the first session of digital security training was delivered online in partnership with the Indika Foundation. 83 youth advocates and peace builders from Indonesia attended the online training session. Indonesian sign language was integrated into the online training session as some participants were from minority groups that have disabilities.

On 4th October 2024, the second session was held in-person in Jakarta at Universitas Yarsi’s Faculty of Law. 28 representatives from different minority groups in Indonesia who are vulnerable against online threats attended these sessions. Asia Centre’s Regional Director, Dr. James Gomez was there to provide the opening remarks and a brief introduction to the training.

In December 2024 the sessions moved from Jakarta to Bali where a total of 36 high-risk users received the training.

On 2 December 2024, a Digital Security Training session was conducted to 12 youths and youth advocates in Yogyakarta. Asia Centre’s Partnership Manager, Ms. Kartini Sunityo delivered the training in Bahasa Indonesia in partnership with the Social Movement Institute in Yogyakarta.
On 19 December 2024, in partnership with the Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network, Asia Centre delivered the training to 25 participants from various local civil society organisations (CSOs) that advocate for human rights and address gender based violence online. The training provided essential knowledge on digital security and how to safeguard their online data and privacy.

The next day, on 20th December 2024, another session was conducted with the support of the Wisnu Foundation (Yayasan Wisnu). This time the session was attended by 11 local CSO representatives that advocate for human rights and who wished to deepen their understanding of digital security and cyber threats. The session equipped them with the skills and knowledge necessary to recognise cyber threats and how to safeguard their online presence.

In 2025, Asia Centre plans to roll out Phase 2 of the Digital Security Training programme in partnership with Google as it was met with positive feedback from the participants and stakeholders from Indonesia.
